'Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.'
Welcome to Class 1.
This is our Reception class at St Mary's. The class teachers are Mrs Rushton and Mrs Tissiman and Mrs Clarke is the class teaching assistant. As well as settling into the school routines and exploring the classroom, our first topic is 'Around the world'. During this topic we will be exploring different countries and cultures. The children will also be learning about the range of foods and animals that come from around the world!
In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. The children develop their skills across 3 prime areas of learning:
- Communication and Language,
- Physical Development,
- Personal, social and emotional development.
Children also develop skills in the following specific areas of learning:
- Understanding of the world,
- Expressive arts and design.
Children are allowed to make choices and get the opportunity to direct their own learning. This helps them to develop their learning characteristics in the following areas:
- Playing and exploring,
- Active learning,
- Creating and thinking critically.
PE for class one will be on a Monday and Friday afternoon.
We are very excited to begin our learning adventure in this new academic year.
